Full Description

Designed for maximum tonal versatility, the Classic J is the perfect passive pickup for your Jazz Bass. Use the tone control to roll off the high-end and hit the bridge pickup for fat “Jaco” inspired tones, or open up all controls and find enough punch, harmonics and clarity for some serious slap-work. The aged magnets allow for plectrum work that retains detail and a crisp attack.

Wax potted to eliminate microphonic feedback. RWRP for noise cancelling operation when both pickups are in series or parallel.

Note: The Classic J set was sold under the name "Jazz Plus" for many years - Nothing has changed except the name!

New for 2024 - Due to popular demand, we've begun to make a variation of the Classic J with staggered poles - these work especially well with basses with more rounded fingerboards, such as the 7 1/4" boards found on vintage models and reissues.

Classic J Pickups

These pickups sound great. Don't let the price fool you.. these things easily hold their own against other 'premium' products and represent great value for money with no compromise!

A huge difference!

I had an old PJ bass from the mid 90s on the wall that I decided to refurbish, a cheap one from Aria.
I swapped the P pickups some 20 years ago and today I built in the Tonerider J-Pickup for bridge position.
The difference to the stock pickup is huge, absolutely amazing. The sound is much louder and so much warmer and with more fundament, it's unbelievable.
Well invested money and it was not.much, either!
Thanks for this great pickup.

Fantastic tone!

I put this set on a prototype bass and took it to a guitar show. It was my most popular model on show with some customers coming back several times to play it. Everyone who played it loved the tone. You can’t go wrong with Tonerider!
